VIP volunteers are Very Important People!

The contribution of pro bono services to the poor has a long history in Philadelphia. All of volunteers, including attorneys, paralegals, and law students have consistently donated their time and talent to represent low-income Philadelphians, made financial contributions to assist in projects, and provided much needed resources to those in need of legal services.

Today, the scarcity of funding to legal services providers in addition to restrictions on the legal activities providers are able to perform make pro bono work by volunteers even more important. Pro Bono volunteers are an essential element in providing the poor with full-range quality legal services.

VIP, through its volunteers and staff, serves more than 1000 individuals and families yearly who could not afford attorneys and whose cases could or would not be handled by other public interest organizations. We are the agency of last resort for the majority of our clients.

Our growing number of clients are among the poorest in the City and the region. To be eligible for our services a client's income must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Consequently, our most financially secure single clients earn up to $21,660, while a family of four lives on only $44,100.

In stark terms, VIP is the agency of last resort for many low-income individuals and families who face critical legal problems that affect their basic needs. We need YOUR help to accomplish our mission of access to justice for all Philadelphians.

You can help today! You can volunteer with VIP in the following ways:
