Case #20-0045154

Divorce with Equitable Distribution: A survivor of domestic abuse needs divorce representation. Client and her husband were married in 1970 in Puerto Rico and have been separated for about 9 years. Client obtained a PFA against husband in 2012, which has since expired. Her husband moved to Florida two months ago; however, he has recently threatened to come back, prompting client to seek an emergency PFA on her own. Client lives in a home she purchased in 2005 while she and her husband were still together. Both the deed and the mortgage are under client’s name, but it is marital property and her husband has stated he wants money from it. Client’s primary goal is to protect her home in the divorce. A volunteer would need to initiate the divorce and represent client throughout the process. Client is Spanish-speaking; interpretation services are available upon request.
