Client seeks assistance at an eviction hearing scheduled for September 25, 2020, at 9:30am in Municipal Court – Room 3. Client has lived in the property since May 2018 but fell behind on rent in July 2019. Client tried to pay the amount she owed with two money orders in August 2019but property management claimed to have never received the second money order. Client later learned that landlord did not have their rental license so she did withhold rent until it was obtained in January 2020. Client then began withholding rent in February 2020 due to habitability issues, lack of receival of Good Housing Handbook, and landlord’s refusal to return excess security deposit. Client would like to remain in the property. The eviction complaint seeks September 2019 through January 2020 rent, late fees, attorney fees, court costs, and ongoing rent from the date of filing.
