Eighty-two-year-old client seeks representation for a collections hearing. Client is being sued by a credit card lender for a little over $3k. Client has not yet responded to the complaint, but opposing counsel granted a delay of judgment until October 27, 2021. Client used her credit card solely to financially support her sister and her sister’s new business which has since shut down. Client attempted to negotiate a payment agreement with the credit card lender; however, the amount she was asked to pay each month was more than she could afford. The client’s goal is to avoid court if possible and reach an affordable payment plan. An arbitration is scheduled for May 20, 2022. A volunteer is needed to help client respond to the complaint and defend her throughout the case.
