Client seeks assistance with a debt collection hearing in Municipal Court scheduled for December 6, 2022 at 10:45 am. Citibank is suing Client on a credit card debt of $3,942.16. Client does not recall the year he opened the card, but he knows he has had the card for over 30 years. Client alleges that he was the victim of identity theft and fraud in 2017, which led to the debt in question. Client did not pay because he felt he did not owe the debt due to fraud. Moreover, Client believed he no longer owed the debt after Citibank discharged it in May of 2020. Client is disabled and unemployed, but receives Social Security Disability Income and owns his home. Client is interested in disputing the debt in its entirety, but may be open to negotiating a hardship waiver or entering a payment plan. Client filed an answer to the complaint on January 6, 2022. A volunteer is needed to possibly file an amended answer, negotiate on Client’s behalf, and represent him at the upcoming hearing.
