Client seeks representation for her custody hearing on August 31, 2023 at 9:00 AM before Judge Leanne Litwin, concerning her 10- and 12-year-old autistic daughters. The opposing party is the children’s godmother. In September 2021, Client learned that the children’s father was molesting her other daughter and filed a DHS complaint. She sent the children to live with relatives for safety, and while she experienced a major depressive episode. Godmother filed for shared physical and legal custody in October 2021. In March 2022, Client agreed to a temporary arrangement by which the court granted Godmother primary physical custody, and the parties would share legal custody. DHS then closed their investigation and told Client she could get her children back. Client filed a petition to modify in March 2022. Client believes the hearing has been delayed and canceled numerous times due to false DHS complaints made by Godmother. Client is concerned about the children’s care, as they lost access to needed programs because Godmother moved them to a different school. Client is also concerned that Godmother is inattentive to the children’s hygiene, and that members of Godmother’s family have injured the children. A volunteer is needed to represent Client at her hearing.
