80-year-old client seeks assistance gaining title of his home through a quiet title action based on adverse possession. About eighteen years ago, the record owner told Client he could move into the home if he fixed it up. Client lost contact with the record owner. In 2013, a woman claiming to be the record owner’s wife sued Client saying that he owed her rent. The alleged record owner’s wife then withdrew from the court proceedings. Client has extensive paperwork proving that he has paid the taxes and utilities for the home for the last fourteen years. VIP has found documentation that the record owner is deceased and that his alleged wife is the administrator of his estate. A volunteer is needed to investigate the ownership of the property, assist client to file a quiet title action against the proper parties, and represent him throughout the case. Client is Spanish speaking but prefers that his children, who are English speaking, speak on his behalf; interpretation service available upon request.
