Case #24-0059081

Hearing: May 29, 2024, at 8:45 AM

Client and his family were victims of a fire this past February and are now facing eviction for unpaid rent and a water bill. Per Client, once the fire was extinguished, the fire department noted the cause to be a faulty extension cord and determined the home to be habitable with the exception of the master bedroom, where the fire occurred. To date, Landlord has not completed any needed repairs related to the fire. Client has attempted to pay Landlord rent, but Landlord has refused to accept it and told Client he has to move. Accordingly, Client has kept the unpaid rent set aside. However, Client has not paid the water bill because Landlord refuses to provide a copy of the bill reflecting the charges. Client also paid an excessive deposit when he moved in over two years ago, and has not received any money back. Landlord has not provided Client with the required lead certification. Landlord is represented by Howard Ford, Esq.
