Client, father of four, seeks title to his home, which is owned by his deceased mother. Client’s mother died testate in 2010. In her will, she leaves the property to all five of her children including client. She names another one of her children as executor and all four of her other children as successor executors, with client being the last named successor executor. All of the deceased record owner’s children want client to have their interests in the property and are willing to renounce their right to administer the estate to client. There is an estate recovery claim against the record owner’s estate for approximately $48,000. A volunteer is needed to assist client with administering his mother’s estate and obtaining title to the property. The volunteer is also needed to help client determine what can be done to manage the estate recovery claim and any other debts that exist, including possibly an open mortgage.

Client also wishes to name her husband’s niece as guardian of her daughter’s estate so her daughter may receive half of her father’s life insurance policy with Aetna. A volunteer is needed to help client gain title to the home in which she and her daughter live and to assist client appointing a guardian to her daughter’s estate. The cousin has since obtained an order for sole legal, and primary physical, custody. The child’s mother did not know who the father was, and no father appears on the child’s birth certificate. Now the cousin and her fiance wish to adopt the child together. Both would-be parents are VIP clients and have signed conflict waivers. A volunteer is needed to file an adoption petition and represent the clients throughout the adoption process.

A volunteer is needed to help client change the name on his birth certificate through a name change petition and an application to amend his birth certificate.

Client trains and helps folks build leadership skills to advocate for themselves. Client is engaged with elected officials through advocacy campaigns. A company has submitted proposals to build a biogas facility on rented land at a different company’s refining complex in the Point Breeze neighborhood. Client argues that the company running the refining complex and the company submitting the proposal should pay for the damages that will be caused in the neighborhood. The refining complex company and the company submitting the proposal are applying for permits from Pennsylvania and Philadelphia. Client seeks assistance understanding permitting processes and counsel and advice on how to oppose these permits.

Client believes he may be in Nigeria. However, the client does not believe he would oppose the adoption. A volunteer is needed to file a petition for adoption and represent the client throughout the process. The volunteer may also need to pursue a termination of the father’s parental rights and special service because the father’s whereabouts are unknown.

OP is currently incarcerated again, but is still threatening client via letters and phone calls. No divorce action has been filed, and client has no interest in either the marital estate or receiving support from OP. A volunteer is needed to file for divorce and represent client throughout the process.

Client has two birth certificates that reflect two different birth dates, and two social security numbers as a result of a household disruption in her youth. Client has been unable to access her social security retirement benefits due to these discordant birth dates and social security numbers. A volunteer attorney is needed to help client rectify this issue with the Social Security Administration. Client has already obtained copies of her Social Security Numidents already through a FOIA request and, if necessary, can also request copies of her Social Security Applications.
