Ways to Volunteer: Attorneys

Volunteering with VIP

To take a VIP case, there’s just one core requirement: you must be a Pennsylvania-licensed attorney, or be working under the supervision of a Pennsylvania-licensed attorney. VIP provides malpractice insurance for volunteers on our pro bono cases, so you don’t need to carry your own.

Take a Case

Ready to take a case? Start your pro bono service by:

  • Expressing interest in an available case
  • Reaching out for one-on-one guidance in selecting the right case for you
  • Saying “yes!” when a VIP staff member calls or emails you about taking a case

And remember, VIP can provide office space, printing and mailing supplies, notaries, and more to support you and your client.

Not sure if you’re ready yet? Click here to see more ways we are available to support you.

Most attorneys I know went to law school because they care about seeing justice served. Volunteering with VIP is one way we can continue to live that out.

Attend a Legal Clinic

Eager to help, but not sure where to start? Consider attending one of VIP’s legal clinics.

VIP has clinics across a wide range of issue areas, and the volunteer attorneys and clients who meet at clinics often continue working together thereafter.

Clinic opportunities include: issue-spotting and strategizing with small business and nonprofit clients; helping renter-tenants resolve judgments in eviction cases, which pose a barrier to future housing access; and reviewing title documents to help Philadelphia’s homeowners pass on their assets to the next generation.

Visit our events page for all upcoming clinics.

Mentor Another Volunteer

VIP’s experienced volunteers are one of our most precious resources. As a mentor, you’ll provide a VIP volunteer attorney venturing into a new topic area with your insight and expertise to help ensure her/his pro bono case goes smoothly.

Please fill out an enrollment form today and help VIP’s volunteers navigate complex legal issues with confidence.
