AmeriCorps VISTA Program

Contribute your talents to VIP with a year of service!

AmeriCorps VISTA members serve one-year terms with VIP to expand our capacity to recruit and retain volunteers and represent low-income clients.  Each VISTA member focuses on a particular project, such as Philadelphia’s tangled title epidemic, the emerging eviction crisis, or volunteer engagement.

Volunteer Engagement Coordinator

Philadelphia VIP seeks an energetic, goal-oriented team player to serve as its Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to help VIP mobilize volunteer attorneys to represent clients.  The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will expand VIP’s capacity to attract and retain volunteers by working on initiatives that will motivate prospective volunteers to engage with VIP and helping to design, implement, and refine new approaches to retain volunteers.

Landlord-Tenant Initiative Outreach Coordinator

Philadelphia VIP seeks an energetic, goal-oriented team player to serve as its Landlord-Tenant Initiative Outreach Coordinator, focusing on Philadelphia’s emerging eviction crisis.  The Outreach Coordinator will build VIP’s long-term capacity to represent low-income clients facing eviction by helping design, implement, and support programs that provide renters facing a scheduled eviction hearing with legal representation from a volunteer attorney.

Tangled Title Initiative Outreach Coordinator

Philadelphia VIP seeks a self-starting, goal-oriented team player to serve as its Tangled Title Initiative Outreach Coordinator, focusing on Philadelphia’s tangled title epidemic.  The Outreach Coordinator will build VIP’s long-term capacity to represent low-income clients with tangled title issues by reforming case processing approaches and building upon existing strategic partnerships with other organizations.

Internship Opportunities

Operations & Outreach Internship – Summer 2020

Philadelphia VIP seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, dependable undergraduate student to serve as an intern with our external relations and operations teams.  VIP’s interns will gain valuable hands-on experience in:

  • Volunteer and donor recruitment, with a focus on marketing and communications efforts
  • Nonprofit operations, including finance, human resources, and office management
  • Database management processes and general information technology procedures
  • Client relations, event planning, and volunteer services

Nonprofit & Small Business Internship – Summer 2020

LawWorks is the community economic development project of Philadelphia VIP that works with small business and nonprofit organization clients. LawWorks strengthens Philadelphia communities by providing these clients with pro bono legal advice and transactional representation. Philadelphia VIP seeks a highly motivated undergraduate student to serve as an intern with LawWorks. The LawWorks intern will gain valuable experience by:

  • Communicating with small business and nonprofit organization clients
  • Drafting written communication with diverse constituents
  • Implementing and improving processes to recruit clients and volunteers, following up on referred cases, and spreading awareness of resources through LawWorks

Legal Internship – Fall 2020

VIP seeks highly motivated, second- or third-year law students to serve as legal interns during the fall semester supporting VIP’s work in the many areas where our clients face critical legal needs, including: family law (custody, support, divorce, adoption), homeownership/tangled title (probate, quiet title, and deed transfers), debt collection, guardianship, tort defense, and estate planning.

Our legal interns function as valued members of the VIP team. With attentive attorney supervision and training, interns gain valuable skills that will help them launch careers in any sector of the legal profession or in non-profit leadership.
