VIP Launches Executive Director Search

Following Sophie Bryan’s departure in April 2020, Philadelphia VIP today began the search for its next Executive Director.

A Search Committee, helmed by VIP’s Board Vice President Lee Zimmerman and composed of a diverse group of Board members, volunteers, former staff, and other supporters, will conduct a rigorous candidate search and hiring process.

Since March, VIP has held steady through the worsening COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to the leadership of Interim Executive Director Rida Haq, Managing Attorney Kelly J. Gastley, Director of Operations Karna Laubenstein, and all of VIP’s staff, Board, and volunteers. In addition to producing new resources and trainings for volunteers and rolling out innovative service delivery models, VIP has continued its essential work of matching low-income Philadelphians with volunteer attorneys at nearly the same pace as before the pandemic.

VIP entered 2020 on strong footing, having placed an astounding 1,000-plus cases with volunteer attorneys in 2019 (as detailed in the 2019 Annual Report). VIP’s next Executive Director will continue to ensure excellence in service delivery to VIP clients, as well as foster the organization’s financial growth, expand and deepen volunteer engagement, and respond innovatively to the many challenges our clients and institutions face as a result of the pandemic.
