Small Businesses & Nonprofits

VIP offers free legal help to eligible small businesses and nonprofits.

The Community We Serve

When your small business or nonprofit is faced with hefty payroll costs or restrictive program budgets, you may have to choose between using your limited resources to hire an attorney or navigating these legal problems without help and risking liability.

VIP can help. We can match your small business or nonprofit with a volunteer attorney who will provide free legal help. Apply below.

How We Help

Philadelphia VIP can help your small business or nonprofit through two different service models.

Full Representation

Small businesses and nonprofits seeking help with a specific legal need can apply to VIP for full, no-cost representation by a volunteer attorney.

Common issues handled by our volunteers include incorporation, tax-exempt status, contract drafting, trademark filing, policy revision, zoning permits, and more.

Ask an Attorney

VIP offers Philadelphia’s small businesses and nonprofits free consultations either in-person or virtually.

Clients will use this one-hour consultation to address critical legal questions in order for volunteer attorneys to provide a personalized assessment.

After the initial consultation, eligible small businesses and nonprofits may receive ongoing legal assistance with the legal need(s) identified and discussed in the conversation.
